Background

Dr YM Tan graduated with first class honours in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and MBBS with distinction. He is a Fellow to the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, and received during his surgical training the Abhrams Prize for Histopathology, the William Travers Prize for Surgery, and the John Wong Young Surgeon’s Award. He underwent a fellowship in hepato-biliary pancreatic surgery and liver transplantation at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, UK, and further training in Peritonectomy and Hyperthemic intraperitoneal chemotherapy for peritoneal surface malignancy at the Washington Cancer Institute, USA. Dr Tan was previously Surgical Director of the Liver Transplant Programme at Singapore General Hospital and performed Asia’s first combined Heart-Liver Transplant. He is currently also a liver and transplant surgeon at the Asian Centre for Liver Disease and Transplantation in Gleneagles Hospital.
