Background

Dr J. Sheares obtained his MA, MB BChir from Cambridge University UK in 1969, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, and Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore (Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery).  He was also awarded MD (Honoris Causa) in 1994 by Sheffield University UK.  He trained in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the National Heart Hospital London UK and Royal Postgraduate Medical School Hammersmith Hospital London UK.  He joined the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department Tan Tock Seng Hospital in 1975 and was appointed a Consultant Surgeon in 1977.  He left in 1981 to commence private practice in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the Mount Elizabeth and Gleneagles Hospitals Singapore.  He had appointments as Visiting Consultant Surgeon at the National Heart Centre Singapore, Myanmar, Seychelles, Wuhan China, and Brunei.
