Our History

Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre (MEMC) was built in 1979, a 10-storey building then, at a cost of $100 million. Its reputation as a premier medical centre rapidly grew and in 1992, a 7-storey extension block was added. It is now a 17-storey building that houses both a medical centre and a retail block, with a total of 232 strata units and a multi-level carpark.

Since its opening on 8 December 1979, we have built up an enviable reputation as the medical centre in this region due to the proficiency of our doctors in various medical specialties and sub-specialties. The medical centre is also supported by a large number of laboratories and X-ray facilities.

To keep up-to-date with the times, the centre’s external facade underwent a complete makeover in 2005. In early 2011, extensive interior renovation work was also carried out to make the main lobby environment more spacious, relaxed and comfortable for all our patients, visitors and staff.

Today, MEMC has a pool of 454 specialists practicing in the centre – the largest number in the region. We take pride in our ability to offer a seamless, highly efficient and caring medical service to all our patients. MEMC is conveniently located in the centre of Singapore premier tourist shopping centre in Orchard Road, a stone’s throw away from all the amenities that a dynamic city like Singapore offers.
