Background

Dr. Chua Sze Ming graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Masters of Psychiatry in 2008. She trained in Singapore’s general hospitals and the Institute of Mental Health and became a specialist in psychiatry in 2011. Her experience ranges from community outreach and inpatient teams for the elderly in Singapore, adult outpatient clinics, telemedicine clinics to inpatient settings in institutions and long term residential care facilities. She was a senior consultant psychiatrist in the Institute of Mental Health before joining The Psychiatric & behavioural Medicine Clinic at Mount Elizabeth Hospital. She served a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at the University of British Columbia, Canada in 2013. She was the deputy chairperson of the Pharmaceuticals & Therapeutics Committee for IMH before her departure. She has been a volunteer psychiatrist at the St. Joseph’s Home previously.

Dr. Chua’s interests in psychiatry are wide-ranging as she identifies as a general psychiatrist who can see teenagers, adults and the elderly. She is proficient in English, Mandarin and can speak basic Hokkien dialect. She is particularly interested in mood, anxiety disorders and psychosomatic disorders. She believes in holistic care tailored to an individual’s needs. She prefers a psychotherapy-focused approach in tandem with psychiatric medications when necessary.
