Dr Jane Tan graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1997. She obtained her postgraduate surgical qualifications from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2000, and a Masters in Medicine (Surgery) from the National University of Singapore in 2001. She was certified a Specialist in General Surgery by the Specialist Accreditation Board of Singapore in 2005, and subsequently admitted as a Fellow to the College of Surgeons, Academy of Medicine of Singapore. In 2005, Dr Tan was awarded the Ministry of Health HMDP (Health Manpower Development Programme) scholarship to pursue a fellowship in Colorectal Surgery. This training was completed at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia. This was a comprehensive and well-rounded colorectal fellowship programme, encompassing all the important aspects of colorectal surgery. Dr Tan, a colorectal cancer specialist, has extensive experience in minimally invasive colorectal and general surgical procedures, treatment of colorectal cancers and benign colorectal diseases, complex perianal disorders and functional bowel disorders. Colorectal surgeon, Dr Tan, is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. She is actively involved in the teaching of undergraduates and postgraduates. She has many research interests, and has participated in clinical and laboratory studies. She has won research awards, and published articles in many international journals. Dr Tan has been an invited speaker at many local and international surgical meetings.
