Background

Graduated from National University of Singapore in 1992 with an MBBS degree and obtained post graduate degrees in MMED (Ophth), FRCS (Edinburgh) and FRCOphth (London).  Highly reputed in the areas of cornea, cataract and refractive surgery, Dr. Theng has performed tens of thousands of successful LASIK, Cataract and Cornea Transplant surgeries and as a result, has become a prominent surgeon in the ophthalmology circle.

Achievements

Since 2008 (after acquiring the latest laser technologies at EEC), Dr Theng achieved a remarkable 100% visual success rate of 6/9 or better vision for Bladeless LASIK, Epi-LASIK and Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) surgeries. With his established expertise in the area of refractive surgery, he was handpicked in December 2008 to be the 1st surgeon in Singapore to implant the latest designed Phakic ICL by Alcon. In 2010, he was chosen to be one of SEA’s 1st to evaluate the new Crystalens AO accommodating IOL and presented the results at Cairns in the same year.

Dr Theng is also one of the world’s leaders in the treatment of Presbyopia and multifocal intra-ocular lens (IOL) implant surgery. In early 2008, he was selected to be Southeast Asia’s representative surgeon to conduct the Phase 4 Clinical Trial on the latest designed (Aspheric Restor +3.00ADD) multifocal IOL implant. The results of the trial proved to be excellent and Dr Theng was subsequently invited to present the results at the World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC) in 2008.

He is a sought-after speaker to frequently speak at conferences around the world. Dr Theng is also a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today (CRST) Europe, Advisory board for Crystalens in SEA, Advisory board for Dry eye, Alcon.
