Dr Julian Wong is a Senior Consultant Vascular and General Surgeon accredited to practise across all major private hospitals in Singapore. Prior to private practice, he served in restructured hospitals for over 31 years.

He completed his medical and specialist training (CCST) at the academic unit in South Manchester University Hospital in the UK and later served as an NHS Consultant General and Vascular Surgeon at University Hospital of North Staffordshire and Nuffield Hospital.

At the National University Hospital (NUH), Dr Wong was a senior consultant and Head of the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery in the CTVS Department, National University Heart Centre. He also served as Director of the Aortic Centre and Director of the Vascular Laboratory.

His clinical work included the full spectrum of vascular and endovascular procedures, including redo and complex vascular surgery.

Clear and attentive communication shapes his clinical ethos. He delivers evidence-based care with proficiency in techniques aligned with current advances.

Achievements

Dr Wong serves as the Chief Examiner for MRCS and Chairman of MMed (Surgery) in Singapore and is also an FRCS examiner. He is a member of the Court of Examiners for both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He has contributed to revising these examinations to support the future needs of surgical training in Singapore.

He has co-authored over 50 publications, including 5 book chapters and has a strong interest in medical education. He has been a part of the SIG and General Surgery Core Faculty at NUH over the past 10 years. He also established international vascular fellowship programmes in Singapore, training more than 50 senior trainees and nurturing 10 vascular consultants who now practise across local hospitals.

Dr Wong has served as Co-Chairman of the MOH National Diabetic Foot Committee, Advisor to the National Podiatry Framework, an Ancillary Committee member of the TOSP Committee, a member of the MOH–FRCS exam advisory panel and a National Examiner for General Surgery (MOH).

Awards and Honours

During his tenure in the NHS UK, Dr Wong received a Level 2 Local Clinical Excellence Award for his contribution to vascular services at University Hospital North Staffordshire. Together with the cardiology team, he also received a Staff Team Innovation Award for establishing the TAVI service in 2007.

At NUH Singapore, he received the 10-Year Long Service Award in 2021 and the Resident Choice Award in 2020 and 2021 for his postgraduate teaching.
