| Info | Dr Lester is an Orthopaedic Surgeon in Mt Elizabeth He obtained his MBBS from Barts and The London School of Medicine, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK. He was also part of the first batch of Orthopaedics Residents and completed his residency in 2017. Before joining private practice, Dr Lester Tan was a Senior Consultant in the Tan Tock Seng Hospital Orthopaedics Department. During his time there, he was a core faculty member for the orthopaedic residency programme, and the Assistant Program Director for the Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) programme. He still serves as a visiting consultant to TTSH. Alongside his clinical work, he was actively involved in undergraduate education. He was the orthopaedic lead for Lee Kong Chian (LKC) School of Medicine, as well as a senior lecturer for Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. For his contributions to LKC, he was appointed as Assistant Professor. Beyond his clinical, academic, and teaching work, Dr Lester Tan has been invited to speak at local and international conferences, and has been an instructor in local and regional orthopaedic courses. He also has several publications in peer reviewed scientific journals. Clinically, Dr Lester Tan’s interests are mainly in shoulder and elbow surgeries, as well as sports surgery. Around the shoulder, Dr Lester Tan performs both keyhole (arthroscopic) and open surgeries. These include rotator cuff repairs, shoulder instability procedures, shoulder replacements, as well as fixation of fractures around the shoulder girdle. His work around the elbow follows the same focus on restoring movement, strength, and stability. This includes elbow arthroscopy, ligament repairs and reconstructions, and elbow replacements. Beyond shoulder and elbow surgery, Dr Tan’s sports surgery work also includes the knee, where treatment centres around restoring function to patients through ligament reconstruction, meniscus repairs and transplants, and cartilage work. This includes, but is not limited to, ligament reconstructions involving the anterior and posterior cruciate, medial and lateral collaterals, patella instability, and osteotomies around the knee. Across the above-mentioned procedures, many of these surgeries are minimally invasive surgeries (MIS) and can often be done in a day surgery setting. This helps minimise the patient’s stay in hospital while supporting a quicker recovery. |
