Dr. Ooi graduated with his medical degree (MBBS) from the National University of Singapore in 1992 and became a surgical fellow of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Ireland (FRCSEd, FRCSGlag, FRCSI) in 1996. He then received his training in colorectal surgery at the Dept of Colorectal Surgery, Singapore General Hospital. Dr. Ooi was awarded HMDP scholarships to further his training in advanced colorectal surgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia in 1998 and then at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Ohio, USA in 2002, under the guidance of the world renowned colorectal surgeons such as Prof Victor Fazio and Dr. James Church.

Achievements

Dr Ooi has published numerous publications in international peer-reviewed journals as author and co-author, as well as several book chapters and books. As a recognition of his work, he was awarded the SGH Excellent Publication Award in 2003.
