Info | Dr YP Peng graduated from the National University of Singapore Medical School in 1993 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Edinburgh in 1999. He obtained his specialist accreditation as a Hand Surgeon from the Ministry of Health (Singapore) in 2002. Dr Peng went on to complete a Microsurgical Fellowship at the prestigious Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, which has developed numerous world-renowned reconstructive microsurgery techniques. In 2003 to 2004, he received the Higher Manpower Development Award and undergone further training at the respected Hand Surgery Centre, Kleinert and Kutz Associates, in Louisville, USA. Upon his return, he set up the microsurgical training laboratory in the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore and was the Clinical Director and Consultant in the Department of Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery from 2006 – 2008. Dr Peng headed the department from 2009 – 2012 and under his headship, the Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery Centre was established with a staff of 11 Hand Surgeons. |
Associated Treatments | Dr Peng’s clinical interests are in hand and wrist trauma surgery, replantation and reconstructive microsurgery. He also provided microsurgical support to the liver transplant teams. He has published on new surgical flap techniques in the lower limb and was on the teaching faculty for flaps of the hand at the American Society for Surgery of the Hand conference. His other clinical interest covers care for degenerative conditions of the hands. A strong believer that good clinical outcomes will result in cost effective treatment in hand surgery, he continues to pursue outcome based clinical research. |
Fellowships and Accreditations | During his tenure in NUH, Dr Peng was a Clinician Educator and was actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. He is frequently invited to speak in local and international meetings. Dr Peng was a member of the Specialist Training Committee in Hand Surgery as well as the Residency Accreditation Committee at Ministry of Health. He was appointed as the President of the Singapore Society for Surgery of the Hand from 2009 – 2011. |
