Background

Dr Chua obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1982 from National University of Singapore, Master of Medicine (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) in 1988, and PhD in 1999. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologists (United Kingdom) and a Fellow of the Academy of Singapore, Singapore.

She is an obstetrician and gynaecologist with a special interest in obstetrics. After obtaining her Master of Medicine and being admitted as a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, she was awarded the NUH Faculty Development Fellowship in 1990 to spend a year as clinical research fellow in the University of Oxford doing sub-specialty work in high-risk obstetrics. She subsequently returned to join the academic staff at the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at National University of Singapore.

Over the next 8 years, she was a member of the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore. Other than clinical and teaching duties, she had extensive research interests, publishing extensively in prestigious peer-reviewed journals like The Lancet (UK), British Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Obstetrics & Gynecology (USA), European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology . She was awarded the 18th Benjamin Henry Sheares Memorial Lecture by The Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Singapore in 2000.

Dr Chua has been in private practice since 1998, and has served on various professional committees over the years.
