Background

Dr. Tan graduated from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia in 1974 and was admitted as a Fellow to the Royal College of Surgeons (Glasgow) in 1981 and became a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore (Orthopaedic Surgery) in 1987.

For more than 20 years, Dr. Tan has been practicing orthopaedic and spine surgery. He was the director of spine service (1989-2005) in Singapore General Hospital and was responsible for establishing the spine subspecialty. Many innovative procedures were established during that period. Dr. Tan was also responsible for training many overseas and local spine surgeons during his tenure and was appointed Visiting Professor to Taishan Medical College and Ningxia Medical College in China.
