Background | Dr Tan Puay Ling completed her medical degree at the National University of Singapore in 1998 and attained Master of Medicine in Surgery (NUS) in 2002. She was awarded the Health Manpower Development Program (HMDP) scholarship in 2006 and spent one year at the prestigious Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (Linkou) under the guidance of Prof FC Wei and Prof David Chuang, who are both renowned specialists in reconstructive microsurgery, nerve surgery and paediatric hand surgery. Her keen interest in hand & wrist arthroscopy has also brought her under the wings of Dr AL Osterman from Philadelphia Hand Centre as well as Dr PC Ho from Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong. Dr Tan is a Visiting Consultant at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital, KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital, as well as Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. Dr Tan is well respected in her area of specialty and is currently the Chairman of the Chapter of Hand Surgeons, College of Surgeons, Academy of Medicine Singapore. She has also served previously as the Treasurer as well as the Secretary of the Singapore Society for Hand Surgery from 2010 to 2012. Her active involvement in education and research saw her as the Program Director for the National Healthcare Group (NHG) Hand Surgery Program from 2011 to 2013. She is also the Senior Clinical Lecturer in Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. Her active involvement in teaching also saw her as the Chairman and Director of the Surgical Sciences Training Centre in Tan Tock Seng Hospital prior to joining CHARMS. Besides being invited to speak in numerous local , regional and international conferences, Dr Tan has aslo published extensively, in numerous international journals, including a book chapter in the referenced text “The Art of Microsurgical Reconstruction”. She also serves as an expert reviewer for many well-recognized journals. Prior to establishing her private practice in CHARMS, Dr Tan was the Head and Consultant of the Hand & Microsurgery Section, Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Dr Tan is currently the first and only accredited female Hand Surgeon in private practice. Dr Tan is multilingual, and is conversant in English, Mandarin, Hokkien and Bahasa Melayu. |
