Background

Dr Toh came to Singapore in 1978 to study at the National Junior College after being awarded the Singapore Government Public Service Commission ASEAN Scholarship. After his Junior College, he was awarded the Singapore Government Public Service Commission Merit Scholarship to study Medicine at the National University of Singapore. He graduated with the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1985. He went on to obtain both the Masters of Medicine (Surgery) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

After completion of his advanced training in Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr Toh enrolled on the Roll of Specialist (Orthopaedic Surgery) and is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine of Singapore. Besides being trained as an Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr Toh has a keen interest in Trauma and Trauma Reconstruction, Joint Reconstruction/Replacement, Upper Extremity Surgery and Ilizarov Surgery. He was awarded the Singapore Government Health Manpower Development Plan Scholarship for additional training in Orthopaedic Trauma in USA. He was appointed as a fellow in Orthopaedic Trauma at the world renowned Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston (USA).

Dr Toh was Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Deputy Head in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Tan Tock Seng Hospital prior to his present position as senior partner in Orthopaedic Associates, which is one of the first private practice group in Mount Elizabeth Hospital.

Dr. Toh has also authored and co-authored numerous publications in local and international journals. He has written chapters in several books including the chapter on Limb Replantation in “Emergency Vascular Practice edited by Chant and Barros D’Sa” and the chapter on Wrist Fractures in “Surgical Reconstruction of the Upper Extremity edited by J Herndon”.

Despite his busy schedule, Dr Toh still maintains an active interest in teaching Orthopaedic Surgery. He sits on many committees and lectures regularly in the region to fellow orthopaedic surgeons, doctors and members of the public. He is also the Vice President of the Singapore Medical Association. He also plays golf and tennis during his free time.

Dr Toh has been in private practice since the year 2000. Together with his other partners in Orthopaedic Associates, they do general orthopaedics and also have special interest and expertise in Orthopaedic subspecialties such as orthopaedic trauma, adult reconstruction and joint replacement surgery, spine surgery, upper extremity surgery and arthroscopy.

The main practice is located at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre and he is accredited in all major private hospitals in Singapore.
