Dr Ong Yew Kwang is an ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.

His subspecialties are in ENT allergy, rhinology and endoscopic skull base surge. He is experienced in managing complex sinus cases, nasal polyps, nasal allergies and smell disorders.

He was a senior consultant at the department of otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, at the National University Hospital (NUH). He was also the department’s director of clinical service.

Dr Ong became an ENT specialist in 2008. He was awarded the gold medal in the ENT exit examination. He received his subspecialty fellowship training in rhinology and endoscopic skull base surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, USA.

He often co-manages complex airway cases with respiratory physicians. He has also led the endoscopic skull base service with his neurosurgical counterparts at NUH, which manages a variety of skull base pathologies such as pituitary tumours, meningiomas and sinonasal tumours.

At NUH, Dr Ong collaborated with the oculoplastic surgeons to perform endoscopic tear duct and thyroid-related eye surgeries. He also helped to develop endoscopic ear surgery within the department due to his expertise in endoscopic work. He has been practising medicine for more than 20 years and has performed more than 1,000 sinus and endoscopic skull base surgeries since 2011.

Besides his clinical work, he is an associate professor and is involved in teaching undergraduate medical students, and postgraduate ENT residents.

He has authored close to 50 publications and has received NUH’s Long Service Awards and Clinical Training Excellence Awards.
