Dr Tong Ming Chuan is currently a Consultant Cardiovascular Surgeon at the Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, Singapore. He was previously the Head and Senior Consultant of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Singapore General Hospital and the Director of both the Heart and Lung Transplant Programs at the Singapore General Hospital. He performed the initial Heart Transplant in July 1990 and also steered the initial Lung Transplant in Nov 2000 in Singapore. His main specialty is in the management of Coronary Artery Disease, Coronary Artery Bypass Ssurgery (CABG) and Adult Cardiac Surgery. He started the use of all arterial grafts for CABG, minimal invasive CABG and off pump CABG in Singapore.

He is well known as a cardiovascular surgeon in this region. He has special interest in the areas of Coronary Artery Surgery/CABG, Aortic Surgery, Aortic Root Surgery/Mitral Valve Reconstruction and Heart Transplantation.

Dr Tong served as President of the Association of the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons of Asia from 2013 to 2014, Secretary-General from 1993 to 2003. He also served as Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board, Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore from 1995 to 2005. He was a member of the Medical Board, the Farrer Park Hospital, the SMC Complaints Committee, Singapore Medical Board and had been a member of The Specialist Accreditation Board, Specialist Training Committee for many years. He is also a member of the Editorial Board for The Asia Pacific Heart Journal & Annals of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery, Singapore Medical Journal and a member of Advisory Board for Asian Cardiovascular & Thoracic Annals.
